weekend happenings

We may have had a little too much fun this past weekend. Per usual, I am completely regretting it today.

We started the weekend off with none other than the music man himself...

We randomly got tickets to see Elton John and it was quite a show. I must admit, I was not that excited to go. I thought it would be kinda lame. But Mike? He was thrilled. I think the best part about the show was seeing the sheer excitement on his face the whole time.

Elton is quite amazing. I was surprised how many songs I actually knew and was so impressed with his celeb status and the pure appreciation he has for his fans. I think I have a whole new respect for that man after seeing him live. He stood up from his piano after every, single song and thanked everyone in the crowd. Also, he signed autographs for probably 15-20 minutes before his encore, and with a smile on his face. I always like seeing celebrities take time for their fans and appreciate them for their support.

As I am sure he does at every concert, he dedicated "Your Song" to all of us as his last song of the night.

Thanks to a friend, we ended up with great club seats behind the stage. We had a few beers, but really just enjoyed the show dancing and singing out loud.

I am really glad we went. We had a blast and I am really happy that Mike got to check one more thing off of his bucket list.

Saturday morning, we woke up and headed out for a 4 mile run. We had plans to head to the St. Patrick's Day parade and festival downtown, so we wanted to get our run in before leaving. Plus, running a little energy off of this guy is never a bad thing.

Franklin and I were only a few steps ahead of Mike for the most part, but we circled back around to him at the end so we could all finish together. The weather was gorgeous out, so it was nice to get outside first thing.

Since Deluca never gets to go out for a run with us, we try to make it up to him by doing something special. Since Mike had to make a quick trip to the dump after we ran, Deluca got to ride shotgun and he was perfectly content. No more angry eyes for leaving him at home.

They are like 2 peas in a pod, bffs.
Same with these 2.

Who knew that Raleigh had such a huge St. Patrick's Day festival? I know that I have gone out on St. Patty's before but maybe because it actually fell on a Saturday is why it seemed so much more crowded to me.

The parade was fun, but way too long. After an hour of roasting in the hot sun, we were all ready to get some lunch. We heard from others that the parade lasted well over 2 hours. That is a little too much if you ask me.

We headed out for some lunch and then joined bajillions of others on the street to enjoy some outdoor drinking and hanging out. It was a fun day and we were home by 8 pm, but we probably should have called it quits way earlier. I definitely felt like I had a few too many drinks come Sunday.

It was nice to hang out with our friends since I am sure everyone's schedules are about to get just as crazy as ours in the coming months. We have so much coming up this summer, we have to enjoy our time at home and with our local friends as much as we can.

Last night, Mike's dad came into town since the 2 of them are heading to South Carolina for a few days of golfing. We also had a few friends over for dinner and I made completely unhealthy, but delicious baked chicken with roasted sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts. I forgot to take any pictures, though. Sorry!

I am pretty jealous that they are getting a mini vacay and I am at work. :( But, it will be nice for them to get away just the 2 of them. With Mike's family living in Rhode Island, they don't get to spend enough time with each other.

I am holding down the fort alone for the next few days, which since I have plans almost every evening, means nothing at all. haha.

I hope you all are having a lovely Monday!

  1. Carolyn...Elton John is an icon. Whether you love him or hate him...and I'm not sure why anyone would hate him...there's no way you don't know most of his songs...Your Song, Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, Crocodile Rock, Circle of Life...I could go on and on.

    I am jealous.
